[17/03/2010] Step by step guide how to install DVD Dual Player
Dual Portable devices has become a 'must have' car entertainment systems. Despite the sleek, advanced DVD players look, it is not very difficult to mount and wire, they can be installed with a few basic tools, some patience, and basic wiring knowledge.
You will need of course Dual Portable DVD Player, car with existing audio system (although not essential), small screwdriver, special mounting harness (if required).
STEP 1
Remove the existing system if there is any. Keep the old installing brackets just in case they can be used to the new system. You can use them in the future as a backup.
STEP 2
Install the mounting sleeve. Fresh out of the box, the Dual DVD player should already be resting in its mounting sleeve. Carefully remove the unit from the mounting sleeve, then gently but firmly push the mounting sleeve into the space vacated by the previous radio, DVD player, or head unit. Bend the tabs on the mounting sleeve as necessary to secure it in place.
STEP 3
Connect the antenna. Depending on the make and model of vehicle into which you are installing the Dual DVD player, there will be either a coaxial cable running directly from a fixed antenna or a plastic wiring module with antenna inputs and power antenna controls. If the car features a plastic antenna wiring module, simply plug it into the large antenna input port on the rear of the Dual DVD player. If the car offers a coaxial cable, push it carefully into the AM/FM port on the left of the DVD player's rear panel and, if necessary, screw it clockwise to secure it in place. Be certain to run the antenna wires through the opening in which the player will be installed to create a neat appearance.
STEP 4
Connect the wiring harness. In most modern vehicles, the full audio/video wiring can be plugged directly into the Dual DVD player by plugging the modular harness into the unit and pushing until it snaps into place. On older vehicles, or vehicles without a plastic wiring harness, a wiring harness adapter may be necessary to complete installation. These harnesses should be available from your local electronics dealer, though harnesses for rare vehicles may have to be special ordered from the manufacturer. As with the antenna wire, be certain to connect the wiring harness to the Dual DVD player through the opening in which the player will be installed; when the player is pushed into place, the wires will be hidden behind the unit.
STEP 5
Test the unit. With the wiring harness and antenna plugged in, the Dual DVD player should be fully operational. Test the unit by powering on or starting the car then pressing the "Power" button. If the unit fails to come on, or if it behaves erratically, check the wiring connections made in Steps Three and Four above. If the unit powers on and plays successfully, power it off, turn off the vehicle, and continue to Step Six.
STEP 6
Slide the Dual DVD player into the sleeve. Carefully herd any protruding or stray wires into the opening where the Dual DVD player will be installed, align the player with the opening in the mounting sleeve, then apply gentle but firm pressure to push the unit into place. The Dual DVD player should slide easily into the mounting sleeve while offering only minimal resistance; if the unit seems difficult to push into the sleeve, remove it and check for any wires that may be blocking its movement. Secure the player in place using the screws provided with your Dual DVD player.
STEP 7
Replace all car hardware. If you removed any of your car's interior hardware--such as a plastic trim ring, shift knob, or carpeting replace these items to finish installation of your Dual DVD player.
